Could Batman really glide on his cape?
Trajectory of a falling Batman
Physics students calculated that Batman gliding on his cape would land far too fast for comfort.
Inspired by Batman Begins, students at the University of Leicester worked out how well a cape the size of Batman’s would actually work as a glider.
Short answer: he would glide, but hit the ground at around 80 km/h. Their recommendation was a parachute, which is less dramatic but much more comfy.
Batman’s greatest enemy is aerodynamics.
