Students worked out how fast the Millennium Falcon must go for the stars to stretch into streaks.
When the Millennium Falcon jumps into hyperspace in Star Wars: A New Hope, the stars stretch into long white streaks. Physics students at the University of Leicester worked out how fast the ship would need to travel for the starlight to look like that.
Their answer: more than 1.5 times the speed of light. Not bad for a ship that Luke Skywalker first called a piece of junk.
She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts.
