How do mosquitoes fly in the rain?

Mosquitoes survive raindrop collisions by virtue of their low mass

Mosquitoes flying in the rain get hit by drops much heavier than them, and are fine because they are so light.

A raindrop can weigh much more than a mosquito, so how do mosquitoes fly through storms? Researchers filmed mosquitoes in a little flight box being hit by water jets and drops.

Because the insects are so light, the drop barely slows down; it just carries the mosquito along for a short ride before the mosquito slips off and flies away. Less a collision, more an unplanned lift.
