Can you build a robot the size of a bee?
Controlled flight of a biologically inspired, insect-scale robot
Harvard engineers built a robot the size of a bee that could hover and steer with flapping wings.
Engineers at Harvard built the “RoboBee”, a robot weighing less than a paperclip with two tiny flapping wings, and worked out how to control it in the air.
It became the first insect-sized robot to hover and steer under control, though it still needed a thin tether for power. Nature built bees with no cable at all, so nature stays slightly ahead for now.
Buzz, beep, hover.
