Do elephants and cats take the same time in the loo?
Duration of urination does not change with body size
Almost every mammal bigger than a cat takes about 21 seconds to empty its bladder. Elephants included.
Ig Nobel 2015
Researchers filmed zoo animals answering nature’s call and found something surprising: from cats to elephants, they all take roughly the same time to empty their bladder.
Bigger animals have longer urethras, and gravity pushes the flow faster, which cancels out their bigger bladders. They call it the “Law of Urination”.
From kittens to elephants: 21 seconds, give or take.
