Can a drop of food dye fool a wine expert’s nose?
The color of odors
Wine students described a white wine with red-wine words once it had been secretly coloured red.
Researchers in Bordeaux asked wine-tasting students to describe the smell of wines. One of them was a white wine tinted red with a flavourless food dye.
The tasters described the dyed white using the words they normally save for reds, like berries and dark fruit. Our eyes quietly have a big say in what our noses think they smell.
You taste with your eyes first. Even if you trained for years.
