Can a pigeon tell Monet from Picasso?

Pigeons’ discrimination of paintings by Monet and Picasso

Pigeons learned to tell Monet paintings from Picasso paintings. Better than some humans.

Ig Nobel 1995

Pigeons were trained to peck when shown a Monet and not when shown a Picasso (or the other way round). They got good at it.

They could even classify paintings they had never seen before, and generalised to other artists of similar styles. Art critics have been a little nervous ever since.
