Can goats tell when you’re smiling?

Goats prefer positive human emotional facial expressions

Shown photos of the same person looking happy or angry, goats trotted over to the smiling face first.

At a goat sanctuary, researchers pinned up two photos of the same unfamiliar person on a wall: one smiling, one looking angry. Then they let goats into the arena to explore.

The goats preferred to go to the happy faces first and spent longer with them, especially when the smile was on the right-hand side. Goats: tiny, bearded judges of a good vibe.

the verdict

Smile at a goat. It notices.
