How fast does the Grim Reaper walk? Receiver operating characteristics curve analysis in healthy men aged 70 and over
Using walking speeds of older men, researchers estimated the Grim Reaper strolls at about 3 km an hour.
Walking speed is a well-known clue to health in later life. Australian researchers measured the walking speed of 1,705 men aged 70 and over and followed them for years.
They calculated that the Grim Reaper’s preferred pace is 0.82 metres per second, and none of the men who walked at 1.36 metres per second or faster ever met him. The advice for anyone wishing to avoid a hooded visitor: pick up the pace.
Brisk walkers: officially too speedy for Death.
