Is there a Christmas spirit hiding in your brain?
Evidence of a Christmas spirit network in the brain: functional MRI study
Danish scientists found brain areas that light up at Christmas pictures — but only in people who love Christmas.
Ten people from Copenhagen who celebrate Christmas and ten who have no Christmas traditions had their brains scanned while looking at festive images, alternating with everyday pictures.
In the Christmas fans, several brain regions lit up more, which the authors cheerfully named the “Christmas spirit network”. The methods proudly note that no eggnog or gingerbread was consumed before the scans.
Festive cheer: now visible on a brain scan.
