Are banana peels really that slippery?
Frictional coefficient under banana skin
Banana peels really are about six times more slippery than the floor. Cartoons were right.
Ig Nobel 2014
Japanese researchers stepped on banana peels on a linoleum floor and measured the friction. A banana peel cuts friction dramatically, because the inside of the skin turns into a slippery gel under pressure.
That gel is similar to the stuff that lubricates human joints, which is why the work is genuinely useful for designing artificial joints.
